FootTennis.Club · Practical format for matches and clubs

This page covers the practical rules used for foot tennis matches: format, scoring, rotation and the details worth agreeing on before play.

Game format

Each team has 3 players, ideally 1 defender and 2 net players.

Number of players present

6 players

Two teams of 3 play directly. No bench.

7 or 8 players

Two teams of 3 play. 1–2 players stay on the bench and come in after a team loses. The substitution is done manually: it is decided which player from the losing team goes out and which player from the bench comes in.

9 players

Three teams of 3. Two teams play, while one waits. The winning team stays on the court, the losing team comes off, and the waiting team comes in.

Winner stays on

The winning team stays on the court for the next match. The losing team gives up its place to the bench team or the team that was waiting.

Team that waits first (9 players)

With 9 players, the team that takes the first break is determined in this order:

  1. Players with the fewest total wins
  2. If tied: players with the fewest matches played
  3. If still tied: players with the lowest rating
  4. If the tie still remains: randomly

The goal is to provide better rotation for less experienced players or those with fewer successful results.

Team generation

Teams are generated automatically by the app, taking into account:

Rating

Each player has a rating between 1–99. The rating is updated after each game night:

The typical variation after one evening is between −5 and +5 from results and between −2 and +2 from votes. There are no drastic changes after a single evening.

Teammate votes

Night awards

At the end of each game night, three awards are given:

? MVP

The player with the most match wins on that particular evening. In the event of a tie, the tiebreaker is the average of votes received, then all-time statistics.

⭐ Team Best Player (TBP)

One award per team — the player on the team with the highest average of votes received from teammates on that particular evening. It reflects the teammates’ subjective perception.

? King of the Bench

The player who spent the most matches on the bench on that particular evening. It is awarded only on nights with 7 or 8 players (when there is a bench). In the event of a tie, the player with the lower average vote and fewer all-time wins gets it — the award belongs to the one who had the toughest evening.

Attendance

Attendance is confirmed through the app. Players receive a push notification when a new game night is scheduled and can quickly confirm whether they are coming. The admin can still adjust attendance from the game-night screen when late changes happen.
